As much as I’m enjoying some home-cooked meals and the opportunity to have a great take-away curry back in the UK, I miss my favourite Berlin snack – Currywurst.
Over the last year I’ve been on a quest to find the best Currywurst in Berlin – my ‘Best of the Wurst’.
Here’s a rundown of my 3 favourite Currywurst Imbisse in Berlin.
1 – zur Bratpfanne
The best Currywurst that I’ve had so far in Berlin is from zur Bratpfanne in Steglitz. I loved it on my first visit and have been back a few times since, even making some special trips.
2 – Curry 66
At Curry 66 the sauce is offered in 9 different levels of spiciness from ‘Angenehm’ to ‘Black Death’ – so far the spiciest I have had is 3: Scharf.
3 – Curry 36
Curry 36 features in all the Berlin guidebooks and along with Konnopke’s Imbiss is probably the most famous of Berlin’s many Imbisse. Devotees can now get their Curry 36 fix at Zoologischer Garten Bahnhof, as well as the original Imbiss on Mehringdamm.
D., thanks for introducing me to Curry 66 in Friedrichshain! I’ve been back a couple of times since, as I like their increasing scale of vulcanism. I made it to Curry 36 by U Mehringdamm, and it was very tasty, I found that their curry mixture was a little too “vinegary” compared to others I’ve tried in the city.
It’s amazing how opinions differ on which is the tastiest Currywurst (and not everyone likes it at all).
No doubt. It only reinforces the notion that people should keep trying all of their friends’ favourite places until there’s some semblance of consensus. And if that doesn’t work, keep trying … 😉
Honestly, one of the best curry wurst in the city is the one of CURRY MITTE directly at Rosenthaler Platz.
Really, everybody should try it.. Let me know what do you think about it.. 🙂
Gian, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll definitely give it a go and will let you know what I think.
Thank you! 😉
Currywurst! I miss it :/ Out of curiousity, sprichst Du deutsch? 🙂
Als ich in der Schule war, habe ich ein bisschen Deutch gelernt und ein bisschen mehr seit ich in Berlin gelebt habe. I know enough for simple exchanges like ordering my food or drinks when I’m out or shopping in the supermarket but embarrassingly still not enough for an in-depth conversation. Fortunately, my German friends put my language skills to shame and speak excellent English.
Deutsch lernte ich auch in der Schule 🙂 Allerdings habe ich Berlin nur ein Mal besucht… Trotzdem sehr schoen dort 🙂
