There are 4 Vanille & Marille shops in Berlin, all serving ice cream made fresh daily from 100% natural ingredients in the backyard of their location in Kreuzberg, including one in the part of city I call home, Steglitz.
There is an extensive range of ice cream and Lactose-free sorbets on offer, including a selected range in 550ml tubs available to takeaway.
On a recent visit I opted for a cone with Chocolate (made from Belgian chocolate, auf Deutsch: Edelschokolade aus belgischer Schokolade) and Stracciatella, both were extremely good but the Chocolate ice cream at Vanille & Marille makes it a serious contender for the best ice cream in Berlin in my eyes.
Steffi went for a pot with scoops of Chocolate and Strawberry with Mascarpone (Erdbeer mit Mascarpone). She found the Strawberry very refreshing but for her tastes the Chocolate was a little too rich.
I’m still trying to work out if having a shop like Vanille & Marille, selling such incredible ice cream, so close to home is a good thing because over the summer I know I will find it difficult to resist going back again and again.
You can find details of all 4 Vanille & Marille shops in Berlin (and a further shop in Potsdam) on their website – my advice: get yourself to one of them soon and order the chocolate ice cream.
