Berlin is blessed (in my opinion) with a proliferation of high quality street art and one street art courtyard in Mitte is particularly well decorated.
And one place to see plenty of it in a concentrated area is the Hof (courtyard) next to Café Cinema at Rosenthaler Straße 39, a short stroll from Hackescher Markt station. As well as the courtyard, be sure to check out the staircase leading to the Stokx Shop and Neurotitan Gallery, which is where I found this great paste-up by ALANIZ (above). On a recent visit, in this one Hof, I saw work by El Bocho, ALIAS, TONA, Cartrain and Miss Van amongst others.
I only wish I had seen the Miss Van ‘sexy bunny girl’ before it had been tagged. And it would have been good to see El Bocho’s ‘Miss Lucy’, a vamp-like take on his Little Lucy character, alongside it before it had been pasted over. I walked all through the nearby Hackesche Höfe (a complex of interconnecting courtyards, well worth a visit in their own right) on my first visit to Berlin in 2009 but somehow didn’t realise that this Hof has a separate entrance.
If you’re coming to Berlin and have an interest in Street Art, be sure to put a visit the street art courtyard on Rosenthaler Straße on your list of things to do.
