Since January 2015 Street Food fans in northern Berlin have had an alternative to schlepping across town to Kreuzberg (for Street Food Thursday or Bite Club) – every Sunday (from June to October) the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg hosts Street Food auf Achse.
The courtyard of the former brewery is an ideal venue for the numerous food trucks and stands that serve up an eclectic mix of delicious tidbits and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
When I visited in March with Steffi, Gilly and Bine we did our best to sample as much of the food on offer as possible and managed to eat our way through an impressive 10 different dishes.
Even then there were some stalls that I really wished I had been able to try but I simply couldn’t possibly have squeezed any more food in.
The quality of the morsels we ate ranged from OK to outstanding with the Italian Pulled Pork from Porchetta Fraktion and the Wild-Burger from Hirsch & Eber deserving of a special mention.
Street Food auf Achse is a welcome addition to the burgeoning food scene in Berlin and you can find details of the weekly market on their website, including a list of the participants at each event.
