This metal Gorilla sculpture is outside M.Batman Elekronik in Neukölln, Berlin. In his electronics store, Muharrem Batman, the son of a watchmaker from Istanbul, creates sculptures and clothing out of old electrical and computer components.
Snapshot: Full Moon Over Berlin
This photo of last week’s full moon over Berlin was taken from my balcony. I liked the way the moonlight made the edges of the clouds look blue.
Snapshot: Punk Statue in Kreuzberg
A punk statue (complete with spray paint) by Ludmila Seefried-Matejková (1985), part of a larger work, on a roundabout in Kreuzberg celebrates the Berlin district’s alternative roots.
Snapshot: Brandenburger Tor – The Brandenburg Gate At Night
The Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) is arguably one of the world’s most recognisable structures and has become a symbol for the city of Berlin. I remember visiting the Brandenburg Gate on my first morning in Berlin and looking up at the stonework marvelling at the fact that it was completed in 1791. Throughout history, the […]
Snapshot: Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin at Night
This photo of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) was taken last week when I was out in Berlin on a video safari. Inspired by the great videos I posted in my Video Week, Luci’s In a Berlin Minute channel and Berlin am Abend by Gilly, I decided to go out […]
Snapshot: Berlin Fernsehturm From Below
I can’t resist taking photos of the Fernsehturm in Berlin, especially on sunny days. This photo was taken as I walked under the TV tower from Alexanderplatz station in November after taking the shot featured in my Snapshot: Fernsehturm and Alexanderplatz Station post.

Designed by Hans Scharoun, the building was completed in 1963 and is particularly striking when lit up at night. I took this picture as I wandered past the building yesterday evening. I didn’t realise it […]
Snapshot: Bike Lights Berlin Style
I spotted this bike strung with lights on the wall of a bike shop on Oranienburger Strasse in Berlin on the way home from dinner at Ruben & Carla after walking with Gilly as he filmed his Berlin am Abend – Berlin in the Evening video. I originally posted this as an iPhone photo on Instagram and […]
Snapshot: Fernsehturm and Alexanderplatz Station
This photo was taken during a holiday in Berlin 2010 as I lay on my back on the cobblestones in front of Alexanderplatz station getting some very strange looks. Watching the sunset from the Fernsehturm was one of my highlights of 2012.
Snapshot: Hotel Adlon Pariser Platz
The Hotel Adlon in Berlin is most famous as the site of the Michael Jackson ‘baby dangling incident’. The singer held his baby ‘Blanket’ over the railing of his balcony on Behrenstrasse (out of shot) to the horror of those gathered below. The hotel occupies a prime spot in Berlin with views over the Brandenburger […]
